This past weekend, our family took a trip to the Bristol Renaisance Faire in Wisconsin.  Although the faire has become much too commercialized over the past several years (No activities we participated in costs less than $3.00), we had a great day without any electronic devices.

Digging for Treasure

The kids dug in sandboxes for treasures, took a ride in a giant barrel swing, rode ponies, and rescued the queen’s ship from pirates.

Some of these activities can be enjoyed at home or in other venues for much less money, of course.  However, the appeal of the Renn Faire is fantasy.  Stepping through the castle gates is like stepping out of reality.  For just a short time, you can leave your troubles behind, in modern times, and travel to another time, another place. 100 4491 300x225 Simple Fun

Children have such vivid imaginations!  The Renn Faire can be such a magical place for them.  We brought a treasure map along on the hour and a half drive.  It was Rowan’s job to warn us of pirate ships and other dangers on the horizon.  Once we arrived, we used the Faire map to navigate to the Queen’s ship to help free it from the evil pirates.  With our mission complete, we were free to explore the new land we had found.

We had a terrific day that I hope our children will remember for a long time.
