Research – it’s not just for cribs anymore!

As some of you know, my sister, Katherine is pregnant with her VERY first baby. (Gotta tell you I am VERY excited about becoming a tÃa!)
As I watch her preparing to become a “new mom” – I am reminded of things I did as a soon to be new mom.
Researching – the best crib, car seat, even the best stroller – but you know, never once did I think I needed to research the best, toy or the best baby wash – I just took it on “face value” that the products in my local grocery were the best choices around! (Really I thought they were the ONLY thing around.)
But now, with all of the recent recalls, and with all this going on with Johnson & Johnson – I am beginning to really think that, research should NOT stop at the best crib or car seat!
It must, continue – we as parents must scrutinize much more than that – we MUST “label” watch – which can be very hard to do, especially if your buying on line! Our children deserve it – heck WE deserve it, and our pets do too!
I know in the past several days and weeks I have been going though all the kids toys, one by one – they, have not been to happy about it – but I must, as there mom, make sure they are safe! I have been looking for the recalled toys, but really I have been looking for anything made in China…I believe at this point, it’s the only responsible thing to do.
Amy over at Musings of a crunchy domestic goddess put together a list of some American toy companies for us. Thank you Amy. And of course, though we don’t sell toys – you can rest assured that All Natural Mommies sells 100% American Made Products, made from American made materials!
In addition, thanks to Steph (of Adventures In Babywearing), I just learned of a new blog – Not China Made.net – “an exploration into the dangers of trading with China.†Mommy Zabs, is sharing a “unsheltered” view of the REAL dangers – she has a lot of eye-opening information (some of which I’d already heard about) that should make everyone think twice about buying China-made products – no matter WHAT they are. To help spread the word about the blog, they are currently having a contest and offering a $50 gift card to AmericanApparel.net.
