Extended Breastfeeding
I have come to a crossroads. I didn’t think it would come to this, but here it is. I am considering weaning my son! I know that in the past I have praised women who breastfeed for an extended period of time and I am sure this will stir controversy, but, at 13 months old I can see that my son is now nursing soley for the purpose of comfort and not for food. He actually comes to me only when he is tired…usually with a cup in hand, drops it on the floor and proceeds to try to pull my shirt down. I didn’t think i would have this problem with him considering that his brother weaned himself at 10 months. At the time i was heartbroken, but now i look back and am thankful that i never had to tell him NO MORE BOOBY…he just didn’t want it anymore. I would say that Ian is somewhat like a person who smokes cigarettes. I swear there should be a boob patch for kids who are addicted. Although I wouldn’t mind keeping him close to me and letting him nurse to his hearts content I can see that he is VERY addicted and I may have a 4 year old nursing if i let it go. I completely understand those of you that go that long, but i just wanted to nurse long enough to get them going…a year or so and now we are past that point. Should i stop?
Well, i will leave it at that, but let me know what you think. If you have any tips or trick, suggestions or ideas.
Krista
