Simple Fun

This past weekend, our family took a trip to the Bristol Renaisance Faire in Wisconsin.  Although the faire has become much too commercialized over the past several years (No activities we participated in costs less than $3.00), we had a great day without any electronic devices.

Digging for Treasure

Digging for Treasure

The kids dug in sandboxes for treasures, took a ride in a giant barrel swing, rode ponies, and rescued the queen’s ship from pirates.

Some of these activities can be enjoyed at home or in other venues for much less money, of course.  However, the appeal of the Renn Faire is fantasy.  Stepping through the castle gates is like stepping out of reality.  For just a short time, you can leave your troubles behind, in modern times, and travel to another time, another place. 100 4491 300x225 Simple Fun

Children have such vivid imaginations!  The Renn Faire can be such a magical place for them.  We brought a treasure map along on the hour and a half drive.  It was Rowan’s job to warn us of pirate ships and other dangers on the horizon.  Once we arrived, we used the Faire map to navigate to the Queen’s ship to help free it from the evil pirates.  With our mission complete, we were free to explore the new land we had found.

We had a terrific day that I hope our children will remember for a long time.

The AMA is out of control

fb The AMA is out of control

This week the AMA is expected to vote on a resolution that will develop new billing codes that will label some patients as “non-compliant.”  According to the resolution:

“The stress of dealing with ungrateful patients is adding to the stress of physicians leading to decreased physician satisfaction.”

Just who is to decide if a patient is being ungrateful?  If you request a second opinion, are you being ungrateful?  If you ask your doctor multiple questions during a visit, are you being ungrateful?  What about a laboring couple who want a natural birth, but the doctor wants to push interventions?

Whatever happened to having a say in your own medical care?  The AMA would prefer we take their word for everything and not do our own research.  No question them at all?  Just roll over and play dead so our insurance companies (if we’re lucky enough to have coverage at all) will pay the bill.

Here’s the official response from ICAN – International Ceasarean Awareness Network.  They say it much better than I can.  Even if you’re not in the birth field, or are not planning to have a baby soon, you should still be very concerned about this proposed resolution.

President Obama is scheduled to speak to the AMA tomorrow.  Let’s pray that he can talk some sense into this group of self-serving individuals.  They do not have the patients’ best interest in my – only their own pocketbooks.

Here’s a letter from one sensible doctor about the AMA stance on the proposed healthcare reform.

Hopefully, there are more doctors like Dr. McCoy than doctors who will vote for this non-complant resolution.

ANM Transition

Once again, All Natural Mommies and the Natural News blog is going through a transition.  I am Rachel Roberts and I am the new owner.  I appreciate all of the hard work Jennifer and Krista have put into All Natural Mommies.

I hope to bring you more products to help you in your parenting journey.  New Native Inc baby carriers will be coming soon.  Earth Mama Angel Baby and more of your favorite products will be up on the site again soon.  I’m anxiously awaiting the arrival of Krista’s inventory.  As soon as it comes, I’ll add them back to the site.  Right now, you can find organic baby clothing and cloth diapers.

I’m looking for more earth-friendly products to add to the store.  If you have any suggestions, please let me know.  I’d love to hear them!

As for me, I’m a birth doula and mother of 3 awesome kids, ages 14, 5, and 3.  My husband, Mike, and I are trying to raise our children to walk gently on our Earth.  Limiting our use of chemicals, buying locally grown produce, and using rain barrels are just some of the ways we live naturally.  We believe that natural living and natural parenting are an on-going learning process.  We’re still learning and we hope you’ll join us for the journey.
