Well, we are one day past Easter and instead of posting about joyful family gatherings I am reeling that I had to spend most of my adult conversation time defending the choices I made regarding my sons and vaccines. I admit that every family has the one person who things that their option is always the right one, but I am astonished at the lengths she would go to in order to prove herself right. It didn’t work and fortunately there was a former NICU nurse there (my husbands aunt) to back me up. She told me that I may not see Polio or other illnesses here in the states, but that I also didn’t see the person with the shopping cart before me that just came back from a foreign country. My point was that there is less a chance of my sons contracting an illness from a shopping cart than developing autism after getting their series of shots. Since 1 in 50 kids are getting autism these days it seems to me that there is something wrong here. 

I will admit that my kids get meningitis vaccines. I do this because it is the only illness that they don’t have  a post-contraction treatment for and it could cause death. Most of the others are more a discomfort if contracted and have back-up meds to help if they are contracted. She didn’t seem to care what I said and insisted they wouldn’t let my children go to school – which is incorrect information. 

In closing. The discussion was only about 10 minutes in length and she tried every myth under the sun to make me look like an uneducated loon (i have extensive college btw). She ended up walking out when I told her I would rather my kids have chicken pox than a life altering and now all-to-common permanently life-altering and incurable condition known as Autism which seems to be popping up in to many kids after they are vaccinated. 

Moms – stand your ground. Don’t let anyone pressure you into vaccinating (or circumcising) your kids. In the end, you are the one person who really does have their best interest at heart. She also said that the docs did too, but I also stopped that conversation by saying that doctors, although they are there to protect and help our children, also are getting a financial kick-back from vaccinating kids. They are TOLD that they are safe, but they aren’t there when the vaccines are made or tested. They simply have their nurses administer the medication. 

Could I ever have known,
The splendor of this;
How fragile and beautiful,
The child in my midst.

Fingers and toes,
I must count them you know;
Look at how small,
Why must they grow.

Think of the future,
All the fun;
To see the first walk,
And then the first run.

Sparkling eyes,
Gaze up at me;
Lifelong companions,
We both can see.

The joy of such beauty,
So perfect and fine,
Oh, how I love,
This newborn of mine.
