fb Almost 4?

Today, I went shopping – school time’s almost here and this weekend was NO tax weekend on cloths and school supplies (YEAH)!

So Zachary and I headed out – I wanted to pick up the things I knew that Aubrey would need for school, as well as get her some “q-t” cloths to wear in her first few days/weeks.

We had been out for, I would guess to say 3 to 4 hours, and we were both tired and hungry! So we headed for our favorite haunt for lunch – Chick Fil-A . (I just love there chicken!)

Upon walking in, Zachary was a bit overwhelmed (he’s not a big crowd person), so he asked to nurse. (He was tired, overwhelmed, and hungry!)

I told him that, I wanted to get some lunch first. So we got in line and got us both lunch, chicken nuggets for us both!

Zachary NursingZachary ate a nugget and then asked to nurse once more, so instead of having a very distraught child, I decided nursing was the best option – we still had other things to do.

Well, this woman who was sitting right besides us starts staring at me.

Now, let me tell you, though Zachary is almost 4 (in November), he does NOT look like a 4 year old, he’s 25 pounds – he’s VERY small for his age (we are working on trying to find out why, but that’s another post). In addition, I was nursing VERY discreetly, I mean I have been doing it for quite sometime now, I know how to nurse with out showing ANYTHING, as does Zachary!

After about 5 minutes of her looking at me and Zachary with out taking her eyes off me, I asked her if there was something I could do to help her.

So she then sorta gets red and says, “Um, well how old is he?”

Now, if you know me, you know that SOMETIMES I lie when people ask how old Zachary is – it’s frankly JUST EASIER, than trying to “explain” why I am STILL nursing a 3 1/2 year old, or why he’s NOT talking any better or why he’s sooo small.

This time, the answer came out before I could think, “he’s almost 4,” I said.

That was the WRONG thing to say to this woman, first she starts in on his continued nursing – then she saw the diaper and said, “And he’s STILL in diapers too?”

For the next 20 minutes I sat there and listened to her tell me what a bad mother I was, how much I was HURTING my little boy, by trying to keep him a baby.

So yes, I have to say – Zachary will be 4 in November…he’s VERY small for his age, 25 pounds – less than the 3% for weight AND height for his age. He’s NOT potty trained, he’s STILL nursing AND co-sleeping. And his talking is not where it should be (though he has been in speech therapy since he was 18 months old).

Finally the woman decided to take her 3 or 4 year old daughter to the restroom, on the way out her daughter said something (I did not hear what) and she HIT her, right across the face.

Now, I admit I am NOT a perfect mom, I mean frankly, who is or why would you WANT to be? But, I also have to admit I would NEVER hit my child, nor do I “throw” stones or make horrible mean comments to another mother who’s simply doing her best – or what she feels is the best for her child (and herself)!

Sorry I was not going to post about this incident, but it REALLY got to me – I mean if you need to vent or have something nasty to say go to True Mom Confessions and vent! Why do us mom’s feel the need to do this to other moms – instead of offering to help, we judge.

So question, if you get confrunted in this way by someone, what do you say? I sorta sat there and “took” it – I was kinda dumb founded – then went out to my car and cried, that saying “Sticks and stones will break my bones but words will never hurt me.” is really NOT true – words often times hurt worse, don’t they?
